Second Morning Glory

Wednesday the 25th September

Well this morning was a real WOW day. We knew it was going to be good so got up at 4:30am. We did the ritual breakfast, get ready and walk to the airport.

Shammy the heavy dew off the wings and warm up. This time we are the first glider on the line. The trike goes first as he is pretty slow.

We are in the air just after 6:00am and heading east to the cloud that we can see. She’s looking good. We fly out to mee it and are one of the first on the cloud.

We head inland south-west to start and then soon turn as it looks like it is not going far inland today. Heading out to the north the cloud swings around in and arch and ends up pointing almost west.

The Morning Glory starts to get some speed up across the ground and at time eventhough we are going fast it seems hard to keep in front of it.

A couple of times we dip down low to the cloud. You can see it bubbling up and we zoom through some of it to get out to the front again and back into the lift.

When we first hit the cloud we were about 15 miles from Burketown, headed away a few more miles and then followed it up as we past Burketown and on out to the west. By the time we turned we were 40 miles from Burketown. Some other gliders that can travel faster then us were 60 miles from Burketown before they turned. We think the cloud would have been at least 100 miles long all up, close to 180klms.
